You don't need this app to access the camera on your Kindle Fire HD. Camera can be accessed without the paid app for taking basic pictures using the front-facing camera:

On the home screen, select "Photos" from top menu (slide that menu line right to left in portrait mode, Photos appears between Web and Docs).

On the "Photos" screen, you will see a camera icon at top-right of your screen. Select that camera icon.

On the camera screen, you will see a shutter icon across the long-edge of the screen (on the side where the front-facing camera is located). Click that shutter icon when you are ready to take a picture using the front-facing camera.

To view pictures taken using the camera from home screen, select Photos from home screen and click on the folder named Camera.

Amazon, why are you so cheap that you make a customer who spends several hundred dollars on a tablet buy this app to be able to use their camera? It should be included. Bad, Amazon. Bad.

I agree with the reviews I have seen that argue that the program to make the camera work should have been included with the product. I think that the reason the camera faces the person using the computer is so that people can communicate with pictures with others. I have not yet learned that skill. So far I have taken one picture of someone on the other side of the table from me but that is a rather awkward process. How much more money would it have cost to put a camera on both sides so that with a tap of the screen the person using the computer could take a picture of themselves and with a tap of of a different spot on the screen the person using the computer could take a picture of something that they are looking at?

One of the things missing from the Kindle Fire HD was video recording. This app allows the Fire HD to record video, and still photos as well. It records stills better than the other still cam apps for the Fire HD. Video quality is OK for web video clips, but it's a little grainy in low light (the camera's limitation, not the app's.) Still, it's good enough for the intended purpose. A must-have for two bucks.

After downloading the app, it took a day for it to be activated even though it says instant use, and even then, I wasn't sure how to get it into the Kindle (I've added other apps successfully without issue, and this one uses a different, more complicated, not well documented procedure.) Once installed, it worked as advertised.

The user interface is a little cumbersome at first, until you notice that the initial menu can be turned off, allowing instant access to the camera. Manual controls are available for white balance and resolution modes. This app was designed to work up to 1080 HD on other devices, but the Kindle itself only works up to 720 HD. If you set it at 1080, it will lock up the app, requiring a roundabout procedure to reset the camera. At 480mode, the image is OK but the audio is too compressed. The default 720 mode works perfectly for video and audio.

Granted, this app should have been included with the Fire in the first place, as I was unaware that video could even be recorded until I found this app. Including this low cost app would undoubtedly add value to to Kindle Fire, and I am sure would open the market for sales of the device even more than it already is. Or at least have it available as an option. For two bucks, it's well worth adding the video capability to the Fire.

You can do the same thing using a free app called ES File Explorer. Search for it on Amazon AppStore, install it and search for instructions on YouTube.

There's no need to pay $1.99 for something you've already paid for and you can access it for free. Just my 2 cents.

PS. If you happen to find a bug in this app, don't try contacting the developer. I'm not so sure he can do something about it...
