First I need to say in response to a number of other reviews that this is not something to prevent fleas or to be the end all to your flea problems. This pill gets you off to a great start but you need to use a prevention program with it. I use The Program with my pets. This way what ever bites them during the 24 hour period after being given Capstar just die. You may want to do capstar for 3 days in a row. Then use another flea treatment that helps with the prevention part.

I have two Shiba Inu dogs. Four years ago on the 4th of July my husband and I were driving in the country side and nearly hit two kittens on the road. I got out of my car to shoo them off the road and instead they rubbed up on my legs and purred. They were skinny and flea ridden. I decided to pick them up, wash them, feed them and bring them to the shelter the next day. Well, I found out that we didn't have shelters that took cats out here and everyone I worked with all laughed congratulating me on my new pets since they all had at least one cat themselves by accident. So here I was with two dogs and two cats. What I didn't count on was the flea infestation that would follow and my poor pups suffering as well. I tried everything I could find at the stores, we tried things that the vet gave us and they just kept coming. I then saw this product Captstar on PetMeds. It was expensive but claimed that all of the fleas would start dying within 30 mins. I really thought that this was too good to be true but was desperate. It arrived soon after and I gave it to all 4 animals. NOTE: GIVING A PILL TO A CAT IS NOT FUN NOR EASY!!! Especially when the pill is as small as this. I wish they could do something like the flavor tabs of other programs. After rolling my poor cats in towels and a few scratches I was able to give it to them. Any yes, within 30 mins they were literally just falling off. I did this for 3 days in a row (more due to the fact that the package has 6 tabs in each and I had two of each pet) but it worked!! I then put them on the Program and I have not seen a flea since. So much so, this past fall thru spring I stopped thinking the threat was gone...yeah, so here I am again, not quite with an infestation, but I know that I am not even going to let it get that bad. So I am buying them now. Amazon seems to be the cheapest place to find these as well.

I hope this helps and clears up some of the misconceptions from previous reviews. Trust me, this is WELL WORTH THE INVESTMENT!!

My cat is allergic to Frontline and Advantage, which are topical pesticides that get ingested when the cat grooms itself. He would get a lump on his neck wherever I would apply it, so I stopped using topical insecticide for flea control.

Even if your cat has a flea infestation, just give them Capstar and then use Program. Capstar which works faster than anything else, and kills all the fleas on your cat in 5 minutes, but is not long-lasting.

Although Capstar doesn't work for more than 30 minutes, it kills all the biting fleas and it is actually safe for kittens and animals that are sick. I used to work at a veterinary hospital and they gave Capstar and Program to animals that were infested with fleas, but sick, since they are safer alternatives to Advantage and Frontline (read the insert for Advantage, it actually says that it's not safe for sick animals OR kittens).

The people that give this product a bad review need to realize that if you cat is infested, you need to do something about the active fleas and the eggs. Program is an ovacide that prevents fleas from reproducing so it won't stop an infestation, but it's so much safer for your cat. Capstar works instantly to kill all biting fleas, but it won't last. So if you use both, you can control fleas completely without using a topical pesticide that is dangerous to your cat when it grooms itself.

As a side note, if your cat (or dog) ingest the fleas while they are grooming or licking themselves, sometimes they will get tapeworms, which look like little grains of rice near their anus and bedding. My cat gets tapeworms about every 2 years or so. You can purchase tapeworm tabs without a prescription now in the US. The medicine is called Praziquantel and is available online for about $15. So I have all three at my house and I'm all set.

I'll never use anything else.

I nearly hit two kittens on the side of the road one day. I got out of my car to shoo them off of the road but they came up to me rubbing against my leg and purring. They looked horrible! They were very skinny and had fleas. And I took them home. I cleaned them up and fed them with the intention to get them homes. It's been two years and Harry and Smudge have been a great addition to the family. Only problem was, I could never get rid of the fleas! No matter what I bathed them in or gave them medicine wise would work. I saw this add for capstar saying that the fleas would start dying within a half an hour and will all be dead in 4 and was safe enough to give every 24 hours. I had to laugh. This was something that sounded way too good to be true. And if this was the case, why was it only 20.00 for 6 tablets? Surely such a miricle pill that works would sell for more! But I was desperate and decided that I would try it. Giving cats pills are no treat. Smudge took it in one try which was great. Harry on the other hand took more convincing. But either way, both took the pill. And sure enough the fleas started to die. Granted they have to bite the cat in order to die. So if you have as big of an issue as I did with the cats you should give it to them once a day for 3-4 days in a row. But that is it! You will be cured of the fleas! So now I give them one capstar a month and then the next day give them the Program tabs which keeps the fleas away or steril. Awesome and effective combination. And now that you can find it on Amazon for only 12.00! What do you have to loose?!

(COMMUNITY FORUM 04) There have been great advances in pet care in recent years, and among the very best is Capstar, a small pill that starts working in 30 minutes. Within 4 hours for dogs, and 6 hours for cats, tests have proven that up to 98% of adult fleas on the animal are no longer a problem, because their little flea souls have departed from their grubby bodies. Capstar, used along with a topical like Advantage, a flea comb and some housecleaning (remember to get rid of what has accumulated in the vacuum), should take care of any flea problem. Capstar is also safe enough for repeated dosage, and I have never seen a cat or even a small kitten adversely affected by taking it.

Living as I do in Southern California, the fleas seem to invade in the hot, muggy days of August, and even if your cats are indoor kitties like mine, they can get infected. One can bring fleas and/or their eggs and larvae in with your shoes, beach towels, etc. It is always good to be prepared in the warmer months with an ample supply of Capstar and a good quality topical. If you know any feral cats, they will also like having a Capstar slipped into some food for them, as it will at least temporarily alleviate the itchy flea hell they live in. If you see the slightest evidence of "flea dirt" in your home (minute black particles that are flea excrement, and actually dried blood from your pet), it's Capstar to the rescue! A miraculous product that both you and your pet will appreciate.

Capstar works great at killing adult fleas. It makes my cats a little wired as the fleas are dying, but dead and nearly dead fleas literally come up to the surface of the cat's coat and fall off. No more itchy fleas for my babies. I just wish this would kill more of the flea life cycle, but because it doesn't you may have to use it 2-3 times to get all of the fleas. I used this along with frontline plus drops, once weekly baths, frequent vacuuming and and doing laundry, and diatomaceous earth on some of their frequent spots, like their beds and cat trees.
