Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive Diapers

Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive Diapers Economy Pack Plus Size 2, 168 CountI am subscribed to this product via "Subscribe and Save" program, which provides a very good price.

Recently, Amazon has switched my subscription from the 132-count box (size 3) Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive Size 3 Economy Plus Pack, 132 Count to this 156-count box. The price did not change much but the diapers themselves are different:

1. The Main difference is that the lining (the most inner layer that is pressed against baby's butt) looks like a mesh on the 156 diaper (each cell is approx 3 millimeters) as opposed to uniform surface resembling a compressed cotton ball on the 132 diaper. Effect: when the mesh-lined diaper collects some liquid, it feels MUCH, MUCH wetter to the touch than the "cotton"-lined diaper. Combined with the relatively large cell size, the baby's butt is much less dry and it gets irritated much more easily due to the mesh pressing and rubbing against it. I do have to watch these diapers more closely and change them more often.

2. The quality of manufacturing is worse.

I am 1/2 through my second box of these "mesh" diapers and about every fourth diaper is somewhat glued to the mesh. If you are not SUPER careful and slow in unforlding and ungluing it, the mesh gets easily torn. And the next layer under the mesh feels suprizingly rough to the touch. So the diaper goes to trash.

In the first box, out of 156 diapers some 5 or 6 had the stretchy wings (that fix the diaper in the front) detach easily on unfolding, and three diapers completely missed one of the wings.

None of these manufacturing issues seemed apparent with the previous 132-count package.

I am somewat perplexed as to whether it is just this variety (the 156-count box) has this "mesh" construction and manufaturing issues or Pampers has switched to the mesh lining across all manufacturing locations and packagings. I am about to consider dropping this subscription, and, perhaps, the Swaddlers Sensitive diaper line altogether. BTW, the 156-count box says "Made in the USA".

***UPDATE #2***

The last box of Pampers Sensitive size 3 that I received had two updates to it. The wetness indicator is back!!! There was a note with the diapers that said based on customer feedback, the wetness indicator will be included with size 3 and 4 Pampers Sensitive diapers. It also said the absorpency strip is longer on the diapers. Two great improvements I must say!

***UPDATE***

I was wrong in my original review saying that these diapers do not have dry max. I didn't think they did because no where on the box did I see the dry max logo or any mention of it. I decided to inquire with someone at Pampers just to make sure, and they said "Our Swaddlers and Cruisers diapers still feature the Dry Max design. The Dry Max icon appears just once and in small print on the box. The Swaddlers size 3 are now containing the "mesh lining", they still contain the Dry Max." Sorry to mislead everyone!

Original review:

It seems as though Pampers has been listening to everyone's complaints, because the new size 3 swaddlers sensitive diapers do not have drymax! They have also put the mesh lining back in. There is no wetness indicator, but other than that it is identical to the size 1 and 2 diapers. I plan on using these diapers during the day and the Pampers Baby Dry diapers for sleeping at night. All in all very pleased with these diapers.

I assumed that pampers SENSITIVE diapers would be free of drymax...but starting at size 3 pampers sensitive diapers have drymax in them. I found this out the hard way when my cae of 156 diapers arrived and after only using 2 diapers out of the case my daughter had a severe sunburn looking rash on her entire diaper area! It took almost a week to get rid of the rash. I started using the sensitive diapers when she broke out with the same type of rash using the swaddlers with drymax as a newborn. I love love loved them in sizes newborn thru 2...but had to switch to pampers babydry starting at size 3 as they are the only diapers pampers makes without drymax in the larger sizes.

Take a look at all the 1-star reviews for this product. You will find that almost all of them are related to the size 3 version of Swaddlers Sensitive. Unfortunately my experience has proved the same --the size 3 versions of these diapers are indeed (for whatever reason) different than the size N through 2 of this diaper.

My daughter has been in Swaddlers Sensitive since she was born (started in size newborn). They have been great diapers for her --rare blowouts, rare diapers rashes, and if she did have a rash it was usually easily remedied by moving up to a larger size.

This all changed when we started her on Size 3 of the sensitive swaddlers. First, I found I was changing her more frequently (or at least checking her diaper more frequently) because of a horrible chemical smell coming from her diaper region. I thought it was just me --but reading reviews here confirms that it is the diaper. For some reason, the size 3 versions emit this horrible chemical smell whenever the diaper becomes soiled with urine. Some reviewers have suspected that this is because the size 3 versions actually contain Pampers "Dry-max" chemicals. This may or may not be true, but what i do know is that something is definitely different about the size 3s versus the N-2 sizes.

Second, my daughter developed a persistant rash once we started her on the size 3s. Since she had been in this type of diaper since birth, i thought maybe it was her diaper cream (we use aquaphor). We changed that to Motherlove diaper cream and the rash still persisted. The pediatrician also prescribed her some anti-fungal (nystatin) cream in case what she had was something worse than a regular diaper rash. Still no improvement. Finally we changed her diapers (to Earth's Best TenderCare diapers, size 3). Within 1 day, her rash improved and now a few days later it is completely gone. This suggests to me that it was indeed her Size 3 swaddlers that were giving her a problem.

Finally, as other reviewers have noted as well, the size 3 diapers just FEEL different as well. They are thinner, not as soft, and overall feel cheaper than the size 2 versions.

Bottom line -i truly believe there is something very different in the way the Size 3 diapers are constructed. If your baby is moving up to size 3, go ahead and try these --but just keep an eye out for any reactions and have a set of another type of diaper on hand just in case. Good luck everyone!

Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive without Dry Max size 1 and 2 are wonderful. I have had no problems with diaper rash or leaks (I use ones without the Dry Max because I know 2 other babies who have had horrible rashes due to the Dry Max). Unfortunately size 3 is not wonderful and I would not recommend anyone using these. After a using few diapers I noticed a strange smell coming from my daughter. Finally, after thinking I was going crazy trying to find out where this strange chemical smell was coming from, I realized it was her diaper! Every time she wet her diaper this strange, nasty smell would happen! The smell is so bad it makes my eyes burn! My baby never got a rash from the diapers but I only used them for about 2 days. I won't risk my daughter getting a chemical burn. I called Pampers and they didn't give an explanation as to why the diaper had this smell but they did listen and will be sending me a questionnaire to send back with a couple of the diapers. I will be returning my unused diapers to Amazon and I have already switched to Huggies. There is nothing worse than your beautiful baby having a nasty smell to them! I am disappointed that Pampers couldn't continue with the same good quality as in size 1 and 2. Don't risk buying Pampers shoddy size 3s and just buy another brand.
